SCOUT EDUCATION PROGRAMS
Each Bonnet House program includes a tour of the main house.
Two-Hour Sessions:
Schedule: Tuesday through Friday after school, early release days or on teacher workdays; Saturday classes scheduled for groups of 20 or more.
Bonnet House is CLOSED Mondays and the month of September.
Cost: $8.00 per girl (1 leader & 1 chaperone FREE)
Minimum: #10
LISTENING TO THE PAST (Brownie Try-It)
Discover this wilderness retreat through oral histories of the staff who lived and worked on the Bonnet House Estate. Walk the path of the Barefoot Mailman, learn the importance of historic preservation, examine state and local history, and witness the environmental impact on the barrier island. Each Scout will receive a FREE Bonnet House Coloring Book
ECO-EXPLORER (Brownie Try-It)
Explore 35 acres of a barrier island. Investigate a mangrove swamp, coastal dune hammock and freshwater slough. Study the plants of the different ecosystems and learn about animal habitats and food webs.
COLORS & SHAPES WITH AN INTRO TO HOBBIES (Brownie Try-It)
Visit Bonnet House Museum & Gardens to observe the various hobbies and collections of the Bartlett Family. Primary colors along with unusual shapes were used to build and decorate this whimsical winter retreat.
EARTH CONNECTIONS (Junior Badge Program)
Investigate the various ecosystems of South Florida on the estate’s 35-acre barrier island. This unusual site for field investigations allows for exploration of rare natural habitats. Discuss environmental issues and participate in hands-on activities.

Listening to the Past and Her Story

Cost $12.00
Visit one of the oldest homes on Fort Lauderdale Beach. Bonnet House was built in 1920 by artist Frederic Bartlett but the story of Bonnet House Estate goes back to the time of the Tequesta and the Barefoot Mailman. Hear about the many people who lived and visited this historic site. Learn about Juliette Gordon Low and women important to Fort Lauderdale. Learn why Mrs. Bartlett the owner of Bonnet House turned her home into a museum.

Nestled among miles of beachfront development are 35 acres of a pristine barrier island system that make up the Bonnet House Estate. See three different types of water eco systems and learn about water without getting wet! Learn about the earth and sky while visiting the highest point on Fort Lauderdale Beach. You will use magnifying glasses, microscopes and as usual Ms Karen will have some great art projects for this Try-It!

Search Bonnet House for examples of rocks used for furniture and house décor. See coastal geology, the rich treasures of five ecosystems, and explore a collection of rocks, minerals and crystals. You will be doing art project and finding fossils too! This is an action-packed day – wear enclosed walking shoes.

Water Wonders & Science Sleuth

Cost $14.00
Start with a scavenger hunt through Bonnet House to find papers, oxidizing metals, and simple machines. Explore the coastal lagoon and learn about its life and food chain. Use microscopes, draw some of your discoveries, and make simple musical instruments. Science is so cool! Wear enclosed walking shoes.

Folk Arts/Drawing & Painting

Cost $14.00
Join us for an action-packed day. We will see the paintings of Evelyn Bartlett, and the art –filled house designed by her husband, Frederic. Get creative with potato-print designs, stencils, simple jewelry, and experiment with a wide range of art supplies. We’ll learn about colorful folk costumes, and see lots of needlework made by women. Wear your painting clothes!
