FREDERIC CLAY BARTLETT IN CHICAGO
by WILLIAM TYRE
William Tyre has served as the Executive Director and Curator of the Glessner House Museum for the past nine years. Bill holds a degree in historic preservation from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where he completed his thesis, After the Ball is Over: The Decline and Rebirth of Chicago’s Historic Prairie Avenue. In 2008, he published Chicago’s Historic Prairie Avenue, based on his thesis, and part of the Images of America series published by Arcadia Publishing.
A 10-year board member of Friends of Historic Second Church, the non-profit organization that oversees the restoration and interpretation of the National Historic Landmark Second Presbyterian Church in Chicago, Bill became intrigued by the 13 Bartlett designed murals in the church, and began researching Bartlett’s life and how the murals fit into the context of his broader career. This lecture will focus on Bartlett’s life and career in and around Chicago, where many of his most important commissions were executed.Register Here!
