Built in 1920 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Bonnet House Museum & Gardens is one of the few complete homes and studios of two American artists open to the public. Nestled among miles of beachfront development are 35 acres of a native barrier island ecosystem. The Main House is filled with a collection of art and the personal treasures of the Birch/Bartlett families. Here, you can walk where ancient Tequesta Indians, early European settlers, and shipwrecked sailors once roamed. See one of the finest orchid collections in the continental U.S. and catch a glimpse of wading birds and an occasional manatee.
Bonnet House is situated on a coastal barrier island. Much of the natural environment of barrier islands has been lost today to commercial development. A walk along the Nature Trail allows you to step back in time and experience a rare piece of old South Florida.
In addition to being open for public tours, Bonnet House hosts an annual week-long sparkling Holiday Magic festival of trees and décor, an annual series of outdoor music concerts, an annual orchid festival and provides exhibition opportunities for artists. Bonnet House also offers adult educational programs in art, ornithology, orchid cultivation, and lectures as well as educational programs for Broward County schools and homeschool groups. Bonnet House, Inc. is a nonprofit, 501c3, whose mission is to preserve this unique historic estate of Frederic and Evelyn Bartlett. Through enjoyable and enriching cultural experiences, the Museum connects today’s community to the Bartletts’ architectural, artistic and environmental legacy.
Bonnet House also has a lovely Museum Gift Shop and Orchid Shop where we offer a wide variety of unique, and quality collectibles, blooming orchids along with The Little Cafe for a light fare before or after you tour.
